Traces are sets of data, like a series of points or a line on a chart. They show not just the data, but also its unique features. This means a trace can tell you what the data is about and how it looks, like the color or style of a line on a chart.

Imagine you want to build an app to track user's weekly exercise routine. In this app, traces are like different lines or bars on a chart, each showing a specific activity. One trace could represent daily running distance, shown as a line going up or down each day. Another trace might display the amount of time spent doing yoga, shown as bars that get taller or shorter. These traces help the user see and compare her/his activities over the week, making it easier to understand exercise habits.
